Open Box employees are not required to clock in or clock out, and working hours here are far from ‘nine to five’! It’s expected that everyone puts in a 40-hour work week, but how you choose to do so is up to you and the demands of your project. With most of our clients 6-7 hours behind us, many of us get in late and leave late to make sure we maximize the overlap of our working hours with theirs. On the flip side, some people like to get in really early and get a head start on the day.

Yeah yeah, the chill-out area rocks! What can we say? But it’s not here to be abused – the frosties don’t make an appearance until well after 5pm, the TV is usually on sport or CNN during the day, while the pool table and golf simulator… well, let’s just say that 'friendly' lunchtime games can get a little intense, so try to leave your bruised ego behind when you go back to your desk!

Open Box has previously made road trips to Grahamstown and PE to conduct ad hoc first round interviews with interested students at Rhodes and UPE. A number of our staff have relocated in order to join us, so if you're able to get to Cape Town for an interview and would consider relocating, then let us know in your application and we can discuss options.

We’d love to meet you anyway. In your first round interview we can discuss your plans and timelines, and see how they fit with our own. We do take people on throughout the course of the year.

Absolutely. It’s all about getting to know you and building a long term relationship, so if you want to start early that’s fine by us. However, people nearing the end of their studies may be given preference if there are limited spots available.

We believe in aligning careers to the passion, interests and needs of individuals. When you interview here, if you express an interest in more than one area of focus, we’ll be happy to assess your skills in all those areas.

The simple answer is: constantly. Your performance and growth are important to us, and we make a point to notice people. Your salary and your level of responsibility will be reviewed in line with your contribution, on an ongoing basis. This is not a company where you have to wait for the end of the year to find out if you got that increase.

As an off-shore company, the need will often arise to visit our clients. We’ve recently acquired an apartment in New York to accommodate the frequency of our trips to the Big Apple. We’ve also visited clients and partners in the UK, EU, India, and on both shores of the United States.

On an informal basis, mentorship and on-the-job training are very important to us. On a formal basis, we will assess training and further education opportunities with you if you’re interested, and if it makes sense we will happily contribute to your fees and accommodate for study leave.

Open Box has a 5-year employment equity strategy. Candidates from all groups, designated or non-designated, are encouraged to apply. We believe in assessing individuals according to their skills and abilities, without regard to their race, nationality, gender, background, religion...or even which rugby team they support.
