DotA
Friday after work seems to be the appointed time to indulge in the popular Defence of the Ancients (DotA) custom scenario of Warcraft III. All it takes is for someone to host a server, and the office is immediately filled with the sound of smack-talk and hurriedly shouted instructions to team mates.
It’s difficult to know what the players enjoy more: the actual game, or the half hour following the game where the winning team proceeds to rag the losing team for all it’s worth.
Wii
It’s as important to us to be on the cutting edge at play as much as at work. So it’s no surprise that during one of the frequent client trips to New York, an intrepid Open Boxer stood in one of those long lines in the driving snow (really) to ensure that we got to be one of the first in South Africa to get a Nintendo Wii. Add to that one blank office wall, one projector, and several people convinced that they’re John McEnroe, and you have a recipe for a Wii Tennis Tournament to rival Wimbledon.
WoW
Open Box is home to a number of World of Warcraft players. Several guilds on Twilight’s Hammer have now played host to Open Box personnel, changing faster than some people change their underwear. Currently we're split between The Sinister Purge and Cake or Death, but that could change at any moment.
Part of the fun is having just enough level 70s to run heroics, and even Kara, from the office. TeamSpeak and Vent have nothing on the ability to shout at the person sitting right next to you to get into the green beam before they wipe the raid!
