We've been having "friendly" pool tournaments for the last few years... and of course by "friendly" we man as friendly as a starving pit bull in a Tinkerbell outfit!
What started out as a fleeting idea to prove who the best pool player at Open Box was, has morphed into something not to be taken lightly. Players now rock up with their own custom two-piece cues and each game is riddled with smack talk designed to psych out even the toughest opponent.
This year there were 32 entries of which a pleasing percentage were female. With the previous OBPOOLKING knocked out in the group stage, the competition flew wide open for the rest of us to desperately compete to claim an OBPOOLKING title as well as the floating trophy (read "bragging rights") that goes along with it.
The tension was palpable as the final played out, however it was an old veteran pool king who ultimately sank the black and claimed the victory. The floating trophy and a wad of cash were handed over in a brief ceremony after the game.
Congratulations to everyone who competed, and may the new owner please not write his name on the floating trophy using permanent marker *cough* *cough* [you know who you are].
