AGM Weekend 2009 - The Caledon

For our 2009 get-away Open Box went to The Caledon Spa and Casino in… well… Caledon. It was an early day for most as many went to play Golf at Theewaterskloof, whilst others formed a cultural forum labeled the “Beer Appreciation Fraternity”.

By late afternoon we all met up in front of the Spa for the judges to evaluate the Cannonball Run. Points were awarded for teams on some of the following:

  • A flower from a field
  • A bottle of wine from along the way
  • A phone number from a person not from Cape Town whom you met along the way who will corroborate the story when called
  • A poem involving all key words issued at the start
  • A photograph taken on Saturday between Cape Town and Caledon – to include signage to indicate location
  • Any documentation from an officer of the law
  • “Treasure”...
  • An item of underwear that you did not own prior to leaving Cape Town – bonus points if it is signed by the original owner
  • An item of road kill

The level of effort put into this was unprecedented and competition was tight. For road kill, one team brought a cooler-box to the judges. The Beer Appreciation Fraternity suspiciously managed to get multiple items of underwear and phone numbers, although both Heinrichelle and Catbert claim that everything was perfectly legit. The winners were announced at the buffer dinner later on in the evening.

For the rest of the (very late) evening, Open Boxians were spotted in the casino, games room (you should see D@rrlY on Dance-Dance-Revolution!), any one of the different spa pools (including the scorchingly hot top one), or running around between hotel rooms annoying the rest of The Caledon’s guests.

On the Sunday morning we met up for breakfast in the hotel and reflected on what was an AGM in true Open Box style!
