Fines and Quiz Evening October 2008

We recently had our spring edition of the Open Box Fines™, and as fines evenings go, it turned out to be quite a night!

The evening got started with the always-eventful fines presentation, the highlights of which included various awards about questionable MSN conversations, photoshopped images and the ever popular “WTF” fine, which saw our very own Catbert being awarded with (and later downing) a bottle of Autumn Harvest “Crackling” wine. Yum.

The night then progressed into the much anticipated post fines event, the nature of which the Events Crew had kept a secret up until the night. Staff were kept in suspense about the event for the better part of two weeks and various random, completely unrelated “clues” as to the nature of the event were sent out to fuel the various curiosity fires brewing, the most creative of which resulted in a guess detailing that the night would be all about the murder mystery of our Operations Manager where everyone participating would be a representing a dead American president. (Software developers – go figure).

The event was eventually revealed to be the inaugural Open Box Quiz Evening, with the resident quiz master running the show and the resident encyclopaedia proving that alcohol consumption is indeed inversely proportionate to knowledge recollection. Winning honours were decided in a head-to-head tiebreaker showdown with the help of some negative marking. The prize: a company sponsored lunch at a venue of their choice.

A fun night enjoyed by all, and hopefully the first of many quiz nights to come.
