In the Spirit of Sustainability, Open Box declared November a month of environmental awareness, the highlight of which was GREEN WEEK. All the teams competed and were judged on various categories of ‘greenness’ with Team Bo Kaap walking away with the grand Prize of concert tickets and a picnic at the lovely [and natural] Kirstenbosch Gardens.
(Obviously we would all gladly do this for the sheer joy of knowing we are working together to sustain the planet, but the concert tickets provided a nice incentive)

GREEN activities included:
1. Carpooling
2. Social Conscientiousness in our Team Events
3. Motivational emails on how to be Green
4. Initiatives and ideas for Open Box to be more green
Plus
5. Green Quiz
6. RECYCLING!
7. Green Blog Posts
In an attempt to beat the opposition, one of the teams posted a video that explained how river rocks are instrumental in reducing environmental guilt and another team did no exercise during Green week to ensure they gave off as little CO2 as possible; generally a lot of creativity!
Some interesting ideas that came from our internal Blog Posts:
Goodday fellow bloggers,
It is now our duty to promote the appreciation and love we have for this amazing planet by completing our own personal transformations with the intention of influencing others. I strongly believe there is only one way to achieve this. Yes, that’s right... we need to all continue living our lives as Hippies…
Here are a few inspirational points:
1. Eating true hippy food helps save the planet and the organic wrapping is eco-friendly.
2. Cut back on red meat - Cows are being deliberately over-bred to satisfy our demand for dairy and meat and the CO2 and methane they produce is harmful to the ozone layer - If you must indulge eat ostrich or duck. Since this is the most significant contributor to global warming we should focus our attention towards this. I strongly encourage you to check out this site: http://www.cowabduction.com. - It has some credible information regarding the Aliens that are abducting cows - If we follow these leads we can surely work hand in hand with the aliens and help increase the number of abductions per day.
3. Wear bright greeny colours and grow dreadlocks - This is an effective way of communicating that you are in touch with Mother Nature. For more info www.dreadlocks.com.
4. Get a bicycle - Who needs a car anyway? For more info on bicycle see www.lancearmstrong.com.
5. If you live in a block of flats why not speak to the body corporate and set up some recycling bins? This would be a wonderful idea to recruit new hippies!
I wish you the best of luck with your journey! And remember, if you believe in yourself, anything is possible!
Peace and Love
Overall Open Box can be said to be continuing our Green Chansformation!
