The much awaited day for the inaugural Open Box Sailing Day dawned with rain and an sms asking if sailing still happens in the rain!
Thankfully the weather cleared up shortly after midday and the wind came through to make it a great day for sailing (and windsurfing). The braai was duly fired up by our UCT yacht club helpers with the combination of our tendency for over catering meant that we all feasted in great style.
There was a fair amount of action on the water with OBSpannerInTheWorks demonstrating the “crew dunk” technique to perfection as they rounded spectators on the more sedate cruiser, populated by those less adventurous. Some guys applied the “I used to be good at this” principle, spending most of the day taking out those more willing to have the cobwebs blown away with a blast around the vlei. Team Keptin applied the “this can’t be too hard” principle and only found out that they may be missing some key pieces of knowledge when they had (done a decent job it must be said) sailed off from the club and found themselves in the middle of the vlei.
All in all a great day of family fun.
